3 stars is the best I can do. Sat immediately, good, server takes drink orders right away, check, drinks delivered quickly, then poof, no server for almost 15 minutes ! Finally got to order, once the food was delivered it was average, no more no less, average, and that in my opinion is what Max and Ermas is, Average.

Food is okay, moderately priced, service on the other hand isn't that great, even on a late night when I usually come to eat, I have to wait to get noticed that I'm there, and food takes forever to come out. I did get 4 dollars off with my reward card last time though!

Don't waste your time or money here, there are much much much better restaurants in the area with better quality of food, better atmosphere, better service and less kids yelling and running around the place. Friday night is also apparently live crappy music night. All the "classic" songs are done by a live band at the bar. Very mediocre and family oriented. If you're going to hire a live band on a Friday night make them sing better music, it sounded like the lead singer was dragging his ass across your living room carpet, but only w/words. Singing miss American pie instead of sex candy is pretty shit for a Friday night at 10pm. And that is the reason your shit is half empty on a Friday night...*drops the mic n exists to right off stage*

This smaller than usual Max and Erma's still sports all the best there is about this chain of restaurant's. The service is fine, the atmosphere is typical of Max and Erma's and food generally does not disappoint. Go for the tortilla soup and stay for the burgers (or anything else on the menu)... you are sure to get a decent meal!

I have been coming to this restaurant since early high school (for 8 years now!). Consistently good food and relatively quiet atmosphere that's also family-friend and good for groups. Love their tortilla soup, third street salad, and tomato mozzerrella chicken sandwich.

went to Max's for lunch. When I got my credit statement I saw that they ran my credit card through three times for the lunch bill. The credit card company called them and they said I had to bring my statement to them to get a credit. I drove all the way to Max's and they said they couldn't do anything , they would give it to the accountant. Called every few days afterward, and they said they "couldn't do anything" it was up to the accountant. One month no credit!!! Expensive sandwich. !!!

Food was fine, if not a little bland, even for one of their specialty burgers. Service was mediocre on a not-that-busy Sunday. Service felt like they were understaffed, but there seemed to be many people in uniform - was a little confusing. Staff were friendly and helpful though. Nothing really bad, but nothing exceptional. Wife got fish and chips, I got a specialty burger. Both were fine, if uninspiring. Not sure what I was looking for, as it was a chain, but chains quality just seem to be getting more and more mediocre. That type of mediocrity didn't really justify $10 for a burger.

Max and Erma's is a terrific family resteraunt, one that is one of my faves and I definitely recommend. They have loads of choices, and even an ice cream sunday bar.

Hello chain-land! Is it Mexican? Is it American? I don't really know, but we were all starving, so hey...let's eat. Guacamole or "tortilla soup" (aka, queso dip) seem to make an appearance in almost every dish. Interesting, luckily I like both avocados and cheese that are mass produced, so we're all straight up in Rochester. Service: A-Ok. Very friendly, a few missteps were rectified quickly. Food: Solid 3-stars. A bit bland, but it's a chain. Chains are bland, right? I caught a bunch of hell from my carnivore family for ordering the black bean veggie burger...but it was decent. Stellar? No. Probably should've just gone with the flow and bet on the red meat. Eh, c'est la beef. Ambience: Bathrooms need some help, STAT. Otherwise, just dandy. I guess. It's an Applebee's without all the crap on the walls. Fine. Sign me up, sit me down. Three star reviews are HARD to write. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it. They have beer, french fries, guac and cheese. I mean, hey. It is what it is, and it IS a chain. Word. Michigan.

I really used to like this place, but they have gone down hill quickly. I just used some gift cards they gave me for messing my family's order up from a few weeks ago, I figured I try again since they used to be good. Well I'm done, they must have poor management because you can tell no one really cares about the food.

Had a great experience at Max and Erma's tonight. The pretzel sticks were hot and fluffly, the fried pickles were much better than anywhere else. Each of our four meals was hot and fresh. Our server, Anna, was fantastic; she was kind, friendly and efficient. She made our first dining experience at M&E Rochester well worth it. We'll be back. Thanks.

Going out to dinner with a new boyfriend's parents is nerve racking enough! I have been to Max and Erma's Restaurants before so I wasn't too nervous about the food, I knew what I was walking into, and REALLY looking forward to some Tortilla Soup! Walking into the restaurant, I was glad to see the restaurant was not busy. Well, it was a tuesday night at 8 oclock but I was looking forward to speedy service. We were happily greeted and taken to our table outside (requested) because it was a beautiful summer night. After looking over the drink menu and finally just deciding on about 10 waters for myself because of how dehydrated I was, the waiter was no where to be found. After roughly 20-25 minutes of us sitting and never being greeted, he finally comes around more bubbly than ever, making it hard to be upset with the fact he had kept us waiting. After making suggestions on drinks and taking our drink orders, he runs away to place them. Easy drink orders, 2 draft beers and 2 waters, took 10-15 minutes to bring out. At this time I am parched and just about drink the whole thing before he leaves the table. But again, his personality wins us over. He helps make suggestions on food, cracks jokes, etc. takes our orders down and goes to put them in. Roughly about 45min to an hour later our food finally comes out. Now, at this point we're all a little agitated. The hour we sat out waiting for our food, not once did he come by to refill drinks, or to let us know how long or anything. He left us secluded outside sitting an wondering if he forgot about us. Also, we had to go inside and request for the lights outside on because the sun had set. We finished our meals, did more sitting around, now with empty plates. After finally coming around, clearing our plates and bringing the check, looked at the time and we had been at this place for 2 1/2 hours went by. now, we weren't in a huge rush, but we were looking at movies to see after dinner and had to completely throw away the idea because we were there until 10:30! The overall experience was mainly frustrating and agitating. We were hungry and ready to drink and eat and it didn't really seem they wanted to attend to us. Now the food on the other hand... As I mentioned earlier, I was really looking forward to the tortilla soup! and was even more excited to see if was a "Guilt Free" item on their menu. It was delicious. Just as I remembered. By far some of the best soup I've ever had, and to see it was "guilt free" meaning under 500 calories, I was happy. After the meal, I check online just to see how many weight watchers points are in the soup I just ate. Which I definitely learned my lesson because yes there is only 170 calories in the soup(score!), but there is over 59 grams of fat! I instantly felt sick to my stomach. Whoever the hell thinks 59 grams of fat is "guilt free" is an ass hole. Then, I decided to scroll through and see what else I could have had instead...nothing. Basically everything on their menu is over 50 grams of fat. One burger even topping in over 110 grams of fat. After studying the nutritional facts, I concluded that I will never put Max and Erma's food into my mouth ever again. It screams heart attack.

I agree with Meredith E... "Semi-decent, over-priced 'American' meals served by a poorly run wait staff." I hate to say that but, it's true. I took my daughter here for lunch on a Tuesday around 1:30. We were seated the second we walked in the door but then it took 12 minutes for us to finally meet our wait-person. Speaking of our wait-person... The uniform on this particular person could NOT have been any dirtier. OBVIOUSLY dirty jeans, dirty apron, dirty shit. I couldn't help but think "Dear God, please don't let this person touch my food." My daughter and I each ordered soup, and an appetizer to split which were all brought out at the same time. :/ I didn't specifically ask for our appetizer to be brought out AFTER our soup because I thought it was pretty obvious that we intended to share that as our meal after we had finished our soup. Whatever. With so many other places to choose from, I probably won't go back to this restaurant.

If I could rate a zero or negative I would. Quick and to the point. Cold steak, burger had more fat then meat, table was never cleared, the "seasoned" fries did not even have seasoning, yet we were told they were "lightly" seasoned. Ha! What a joke.

This was my first ever visit to a Max and Erma's. Quite frankly, I consider the name of this place completely geared toward attracting old people, and it did not disappoint. I got to hear the entire medical history of the geriatric, same-sex couple sitting behind me. There's nothing like hearing about some old woman's urinary troubles while you're eating lunch. The food was actually above average, and our server was good. I gave her a tip, and an extra high-five. I won't avoid the place, but won't go out of my way to eat there again.

12-20-12: Booked our work team holiday lunch at this location, a day or two ahead of time since we had 17 people. We were assured we would be taken care of in a fairly timely manner since, although it was a holiday lunch and allowed for a little more than a typical lunch hour, we all did have to get back to work at some point that day. Our group arrived in smaller groups of 3 or 4 who'd carpooled. Not a big deal since we all arrived around the same time. We were seated and waiting for a few stragglers...table was missing quite a few sets of silverware, no water was at the table or even in the process of being served... and the space we were given for the number of people we had was a bit cramped. The server finally showed up to ask us what we wanted to drink. I would say this was approximately 15 minutes after we were seated. He was in the process of serving another table of 7 or 8 people nearby. Not sure how long it was before we finally were able to order, but everyone was very hungry. Someone ordered an app which came out fairly quickly. I asked if I could have my soup course right away because I felt like I was going to start eating the ends of the table, server said yes. ...or maybe not. Finally about 45-60 minutes in, everyone's rounds of soup/salad arrives and people happily begin to wolf it down. A few short minutes later, along comes our main dishes. The soup was hot, but the food was COLD. COLD fries, COLD burgers, COLD entrees. And the "free" cookies that came with some of our meals? Did we come in there really expecting to get them?! Surprise! At this location, you need to hunt down and beg for them. We asked multiple times and kept getting blown off. I don't know whose decision it was to give this guy two large tables at once with no help. It was a very UN-enjoyable visit. I partially blame that on management, and partially feel like the server was still pretty green and had little common sense....simple things like taking away empty app plates and soup/salad dishes from the table at some point to make room, and stopping by once or twice to check on people to see how things were or if anyone needed anything. I realize that a large table isn't always a fun treat for a server, but we weren't rowdy or too demanding, we weren't drinking booze, we just wanted to have a generally enjoyable holiday meal as a team. So much for that! Spoke with the manager before leaving and I may as well have been talking to a wall. He didn't seem too interested and made no earlier attempt to fix the situation approximately 30-40 minutes earlier when we had approached the hostess stand, expressing a few concerns/complaints, and to ask her to look for our server since he kept disappearing on us. We got there around noon and didn't get back to the office until 2:30 or so. Would never go here again. Ever.

Their motto is 'a better place to eat'. My question is 'than where?' Semi decent, over priced 'American' meals served by a poorly run wait staff. The menu advertised 'happy hour specials' on apps and drinks. However, after we received our bill, we were told those specials are only given when sitting in the bar. Then why were they in the regular menu? If you want some mexican 'tortilla soup' or a classic village salad, then hop on by. If you want a great burger, pasta or anything else, please check out the other 100 restaurants in a mile radius.

We were seated and it took over 20 minutes for someone to come wait on us. Someone asked us two different times if we had been helped - however, they couldn't help us. Finally we had a waitress - it wasn't the one for our section, but she helped us anyway. Once we had a waitress the service was good. Drinks were refilled timely and the food was all cooked perfectly. One complaint is I wish they would have the current special on the table - they have $1 chips and salsa and 1/2 price margaritas. We found out about this with the insert with the check. Not the best place to advertise their current specials. I will be sure to stick with the location closer to home.

Ordered carry-out and the food was still frozen. Definitely not the best potato skins I've ever had here. We ordered an (2) appetizers, (2) soups, (2) entrees. We usually order the same thing every time we come here but for some reason this time was definitely not what we were expecting. I've never had a problem with Max & Erma's so I'm not sure if the cooks were busy back there or it was just an off day for the restaurant but all I know is that I will not return back to this location.

Went back a few weeks ago to this location, this time my wife, myself and a 7 mth old. There was a loud girls (teenager) group who ordered before us, and the skinny isles aren't very good for a baby seat, so I felt like every time someone walked by, I thought they might kick my daughters sling - but the food was still very good and the service was friendly. It's not their fault that the layout of the restaurant isn't designed for car seats. It's designed to pack as many people in as possible. One major drawback was the closeness of the table next to us - if I sat back in my chair, I could have looked the lady behind/beside me in the face. That's way to close for me. 4 Stars because I still like their food and service.

I remember going to Max & Erma's as a kid, and it's been ages since I've been back. I don't even remember what I used to get here, but as a kid, I remember it being pretty good. They've changed their menu and I don't really recognize most of the dishes that they now serve. The menu is still good, but not what I remember. They have a little bit of everything, and their prices are okay. I've had a few different things since I've been eating here, and so far it's been okay. I've had the garbage burger and last night I tried the triple appetizer that was quite tasty. Service here is okay, sometimes better then others. I guess it depends on who's working and what time of day you go. Overall it's been a fair experience here in the few times I've gone. I don't know that I would drive out of my way to eat here, but it is a reasonable restaurant with a decent menu and seems to be family friendly.

Being a frequent customer, the food has not been the quality is normally has been in the past. Although I was dispointed by lack of flavor in the fish tacos, I will say that the cookies were and always have been the best part of coming here. Clean atmosphere and friendly staff, especially our waiter, Matt!

I liked it. Let's get this out of the way... it's a chain... that typically means consistency, so I'm okay with that! First... Free cookies? Hell Yeah! And the fact that it's the first thing you order (although I didn't), makes me think they are cooked fresh to order for your dessert! BONUS STAR! Second... Tortilla Soup... trying to watch the carbs... this was Cheese Soup Supreme... this is the reason I watch carbs... to enjoy stuff like this (of course, I left the tortilla strips out)... but this is not Dean Fearing's recipe (which is more broth like), but I enjoyed it immensely! So... recap... good service, good food... knowing what to expect walking in... 3.5 Stars=4 Stars! Would definitely eat her again!

Cold draft beer, cold burger, great onion rings. Burger arrived cold and wrong and the waitress wasn't anywhere to be found until it was time for the check. I up charged 1.99 for onion rings (five of them) instead of fries. They were hot though. The draft beer was good. Another burger at our table was warm...go figure. Nachos came wrong and looked like they were prepared with little or no pride. Lots of better choices.

March 26. You can take down the lighted shamrocks now! To me that just shows their inattention to details here. Bathrooms smelled awful.
